The farmstead as it was at the end of the 19th century, when it was a small working farm belonging to the Couty family. Emile Couty was also the local cart maker and the cart on the left of the photo (a rare tipper now over 100 years old) is still in one of the barns ready for renovation - when we get the time!
These photographs were taken around 1933 when work had been completed on raising the height of the barn roof to take a second floor. The change in roof levels required the farmhouse to be re-roofed also. Les Hirondelles (our name) dates back to 1822 and was the first settlement in the hamlet. Most of the older inhabitants of the hamlet have relatives who either lived or were born in the complex of farm cottages.
